Hello, my name is Miezen Deraimer, and I was born and raised in Juneau. I'm a senior in high school graduating in May of 2026. I've grown up loving the outdoors and have found most of that connection through fly fishing. My passion for fly fishing has taken me to the most beautiful places and taught me the most valuable lessons. When a person fly fishes for any particular species you learn to understand their behavior, and oftentimes it seems like you almost get to know them as a whole. Cutthroat trout are hands down the fish I have spent the most time targeting and caught the most of. With Alaska being such a salmon dependent ecosystem, especially southeast Alaska, the fishing is heavily reliant on migratory salmon. Cutthroat trout seem to be one of the only fish that don't leave when the salmon leave, and are always ready to take a fly. It seems like they're always there.
