Dezarae Arrowsun’s Mural-
Hunting Dreams
I am a an amature mycologist. I have been mushroom hunting in Juneau since 2005 and I have cultivated mushrooms in my home. I am absolutely fascinated by the diversity and lifecycle of fungus. Hunting Dreams is my dream of the most wonderful world I can imagine. All of the mushrooms in this painting are a real species, and all but a couple (Beech/Hypsizygus tessulatus and Morel/Morchella) are found here in Juneau. There is a second person hidden in the picture. Can you find him?
I thought I was going to be a traditional artist as a kid. Haha. Don’t we all.
Instead, due to a wonderful man hiring me as his assistant when I was a very young teenager, I learned to make my way in the world as an art framer. My mentor, Gary Duquette, is a muralist, watercolorist, an art teacher and art framer. Lucky for me he taught me a lot. These skills have shaped the rest of my life. Thanks Gary!
Thanks to him, and many other great mentors, I have spent the last 27 years combining my love of making art with my love for displaying art. I aim to use these skills to help all people bring more art into their lives. Either by making it, displaying it, or coaching others to do both. This Marine View Mural project was a way for me to do all 3 at the same time.
